What is a run-out period?

The run-out period is a set number of days after the plan year ends that allows participants to submit claims for eligible expenses incurred during the plan year. Not all FSA plans include this feature and the time frame of the run-out period may vary by plan. Normal run-out periods run from 30-90 days. Different run-out periods can be set for different accounts under the FSA plan.
